Medevac: A vital air bridge Not all hospitals are equipped to treat every patient who arrives at their door in need of help. When a patient’s condition is so serious that locally available health care is inadequate, the emergency solution of choice is a Canadian Forces helicopter. Helicopter-borne medical evacuation, or “medevac” is a service the Air Force provides to patients who must be moved from one health care facility to another that is better equipped to provide the care they need.

Multi-squadron coalition keeps the Griffons flying in Port-au-Prince To help ensure delivery of international humanitarian aid after the earthquake of 12 January, Canada sent six CH-146 Griffon helicopters to Haiti with the Joint Task Force. This deployment required the Air Force to draw on the personnel of 403 Helicopter Operational Training Squadron in Gagetown, 430 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Valcartier, 438 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in St-Hubert and 444 Combat Support Squadron in Goose Bay.

Kids get a smile from CF members at Jacmel AirportWhen they’re not conducting air operations in support of the humanitarian aid effort, Canadian Forces members deployed at Jacmel Airport have found a way to bring local children a little reassurance. Corporal Gregory Evans was on patrol in town when he noticed the toys that many children had found to help pass their time: they were having fun with empty bottles that they rolled on the ground.
